Lookup Jackson County Inmates

Jackson County inmate search access starts with the county jail roster and then moves to related court or agency records when more detail is needed. The Jackson County jail roster search can show selected custody information for people held in county custody, but it is not a court record, criminal-history report, or full arrest report. A complete search for Jackson County inmates may require the roster, court records for pending charges, the arresting agency for police records, and state custody tools for sentenced prison inmates. Custody data can change fast, so each result should be verified through the official channel.

Jackson County Jail Roster Overview

The official inmate path begins at the county Inmate Online Search page. Before reaching the roster, users must read and accept the county's terms of use. The county says the data is provided for public safety and for community and family access to selected occupant information consistent with Missouri Chapter 610. It also warns that the data is obtained by the Jackson County Detention Center for population control and operations.

That disclaimer is important. The inmate search is not an arrest-report database and is not a court-record database. Pending charges should be checked in Case.net. Arrest reports, incident reports, booking information, and arrest photographs are created and maintained by the arresting law-enforcement agency. The roster also does not include people detained in the Regional Correctional Center serving Kansas City municipal matters. For the arrest-to-charge path, see Jackson County arrest records and charges.

The county publishes the required terms page at Jackson County Inmate Online Search.

How to Use the Jackson County Inmate Roster

After accepting the county terms, the user is sent to the vendor-hosted Zuercher portal. Official public materials do not provide a sample inmate profile, so the safest use of the roster is to treat it as a current custody pointer, not a final legal record. Verify pending charge information in Case.net, and call the Detention Center or the court before relying on bond or release details.

  1. Open the county Inmate Online Search terms page and review the disclaimer.
  2. Check the agreement box and continue to the Zuercher inmate portal.
  3. Search by the available name field or portal search option.
  4. Review the selected occupant information, then verify charges in Case.net and custody details with the jail if needed.

The Zuercher portal is also connected to public PREA reporting through the Jackson County Zuercher portal.

Jackson County Inmate Search Fields

The official county pages confirm the agreement screen and the Zuercher handoff. They identify a name search but do not document every live field label, so the field table keeps the required and uncertain items separate. That avoids adding unsupported booking-number or date-of-birth fields not documented by official materials.

Jackson County Inmate Profile Fields

The sample inmate-profile inventory is based on the county disclaimer and jail-operation page, not a selected inmate. The county warns that custody status can change quickly and may not reflect true current status. It also warns that no inmate photograph should be used for commercial or other unauthorized purposes. Treat each field as a starting point for verification.

FieldWhat It Shows

Jackson County Booking and Bond

Each arrested person must be processed through identity verification, background screening, searches, and photographs. Many people are booked and released after posting bail. People who cannot post bond or who are ordered held while awaiting trial go through classification. Classification assesses risks and needs, separates physically or mentally ill inmates from healthy inmates, and separates violent or disruptive inmates from nonviolent compliant inmates.

Bonds may be posted after the court sets bond. Jackson County court bonds posted 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday should be posted at Criminal Records, 1315 Locust Street. The county instructs callers to use 816-881-4201 option 5 before posting to verify the amount and after posting to notify records staff. Jackson County does not take bonds for Kansas City Police Department; that number is 816-234-5180. Card payment is available 24/7 through Access Corrections, by phone at 1-866-345-1884, and by cash or card kiosk at 1300 Cherry Street. A 7% vendor fee applies, and $1 bills are not accepted.

Jackson County Inmate Visitation

Jackson County visitation is video-based. The Detention Center states that all public visitation with inmates uses the video visitation system, either on-site or remote. Visitors must follow officer instructions, and visits are not allowed when an inmate has a scheduled program, court, clinic visit, or professional appointment. Visitors under 18 must be with a parent or legal guardian. Adult visitors need valid identification, and outer garments such as coats, jackets, hoodies, sweaters, and hats must be removed before visiting.

Visits are limited to 30 minutes. Visitors may not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, use profanity or obscene gestures, leave items for inmates, or avoid required checks. The Detention Center may refuse, cancel, or end a visit without notice. Special visits can be considered for out-of-town travel over 75 miles, questionable visits, or hardship cases, but they need approval by the shift administrator or designee.

Contacting Jackson County Inmates

Regular non-legal mail goes to Smart Communications / Jackson Co. DOC, inmate name and number, PO Box 9167, Seminole, FL 33775-9167. Regular mail is scanned and made available through tablets and kiosks. Inmates cannot receive packages except through USPS. Tablet messages are limited to 30,000 characters and cost $0.50 per incoming or outgoing message. Electronic photos cost $1.00 per photo and are reviewed for content.

Photos may not show gang or security-threat activity, illegal activity, court documents, nudity, drugs, firearms, weapons, or violent or abusive activity. Legal mail and professional contacts may follow different rules, so use the Detention Center contact line when the mail type is sensitive or time critical. Property release is limited to Monday-Friday 9-10 a.m. and 5-6 p.m. with an inmate release voucher naming the recipient and a valid ID.

Commissary and Inmate Funds

Inmates, family, and friends can order commissary once per week. The maximum order is $60 in items for both on-site inmate purchases and off-site family or friend purchases. Funds may be deposited online through Access Corrections or Securepak, by phone at 1-866-345-1884, by kiosk in the visitation lobby, or by postal money order payable to Jackson County Detention Center. The money order memo must include the inmate name and sequence number.

No cash, payroll checks, or other checks are accepted by mail. Postal money orders are posted within 48 hours of receipt. For custody notifications or sentenced state-prison custody, county jail records are not the final source. Use the Missouri Department of Corrections offender search for state prisoners and VINE or VINELink where supported for custody notifications.

Jackson County Inmate Property

Property release has its own Detention Center rule. Inmate property is released Monday-Friday from 9-10 a.m. and 5-6 p.m. only when the inmate has signed a release voucher naming the person who may pick it up. The person receiving property must show a valid driver's license or state-approved identification. Trial clothing is handled separately and may be brought on the day of jury trial. Allowed trial clothing includes conservative outer attire, shoes, socks, tee shirts, a normal dress belt, conservative neckties, and a bra with no underwire.

These property rules are part of the custody record workflow because family members often find an inmate through the roster and then need to handle clothing, funds, or release steps. The roster does not show whether a voucher has been signed, so property pickup should be confirmed with Detention Center staff before traveling to the facility.
